Tales Toolkit
Tales Toolkit is an engaging programme that we use across Pembury House Nursery School with all the children to develop story telling in a fun and collaborative way. Stories are created together using the key aspects - character, setting, problem, solution. The resources encourage the children to use real objects and story props as inspiration for stories, encouraging small world play and role play.
The open ended activity allows stories to be created from children’s own interests, from favourite stories and from their own experiences. Children will have quality interactions with the practitioners and their peers, developing vocabulary and story language.
The approach supports children’s development in:
- Characteristics of Effective Learning
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Literacy
- Problem solving
- Creativity
Children are taught how to use the resources in groups with the adults, then can start to utilise the learning environment to collect ideas and inspiration to create their own stories.
Tales Toolkit works alongside Helicopter Stories and Talk for Writing
We will soon be sharing this resource with our families to encourage even more story telling opportunities at home.
