Story Maths

Story Maths at Pembury 

At Pembury one way we support the children’s mathematical understanding is through ‘Story Maths’. This involves noticing and exploring mathematical concepts and opportunities within our core texts (see Talk for Writing). These mathematical concepts are explored both within small group sessions and within the Nursery environment.

‘Story Maths’ helps the children to

• Develop their mathematical vocabulary
• Explore and investigate mathematical concepts within the context of a familiar and meaningful story, making connections to their own experiences
• Develop positive, ‘can do’ attitudes towards mathematics, noticing patterns and relationships within number and space shape and measure, and spotting connections
• Think and talk mathematically with adults and their peers
